Michigan Ranked As One Of The Best States For Skiing
There’s no rush to get out of the fall season. However, this is the time of year when many people begin to look ahead to book ski trip plans for the winter. The Top Tens recently published the 20 best states in the country for skiing, and Michigan made the list.
To start, there is no arguing with the two states claiming the top spots. Let’s give credit where credit is due. Colorado (#1) and Utah (#2) have powder conditions you just can’t find anywhere else. In addition, they have such an incredible amount of great resorts and mountains to choose from.
Michigan Ranked #14
Michigan is the only state representing the Midwest on The Top Tens’ list. In addition, reviewing which states fell below Michigan from 15-20, you will notice there are some states with major ski mountain destinations that were beaten out. For example, edging out Maine at 16 is impressive. Maine is an east coast state that many believe have the best ski and snowboard conditions, given their natural powder downfall. Lastly, you’ll see Wisconsin and Minnesota at 17 and 19, respectively. So, it’s nice to hold the Midwest bragging rights. Plus, as Pure Michigan points out, “Michigan ranks second in the nation for the number of skiing areas found in the state.”
Ski Central detailed that Michigan now has over 40 ski resorts. Furthermore, let’s not forget about the ability to cross-country ski. “Northern Michigan is home to some of the best cross-country skiing in the US,” Ski Central explained.
The mountains in Michigan are accompanied by 244 ski lifts, SkiResort.info says. The Highlands at Harbor Springs and Boyne Mountain are always among the most popular spots to go. Sure, it’s natural to have the winter blues with the warmer months behind us. But with Michigan being named one of the best states for skiing, there is a lot to look forward to.
Michigan Has One of the Best Winter Getaways in the U.S.
It’s never too early to start planning an exciting winter getaway, especially since the most popular winter vacation spots get booked up quickly. The good news, though, is that most people take vacations in the summer, so traveling in the winter can be a bit more relaxing. You are also able to usually find better travel rates during the winter season, except during the holidays. If you don’t have to travel during the holidays, just don’t, because it’s a mess. So, what are the best winter getaways in the U.S.?
I’ve researched some of the most popular winter vacation destinations in hopes of finding the perfect spot. The following list includes not just sunny, warm getaways, but also some areas that people who love snow can enjoy. Honestly, many people who live in a warm climate like to flock to a snowy location for a bit during the winter to get that seasonal experience, even if that seems counter intuitive. Of course, those who live in the northern parts of America love to go to a warm spot and get away from their daily lives filled with snow and ice.
I’m a Michigan girl, so I’m very familiar with the cold and ice in the winter. Not that I like it. Each year, I say I’m going to escape, even if it’s just for a few days, to a warmer location. But, I never do. Maybe this year will be different. Looking at vacation rates, it’s fairly easy to find some good deals, again, if it’s not during the holiday travel season. Read on for some of the bets winter getaways in the U.S., based on my research. What’s your favorite winter vacation spot? Reach out to me on social media here and let me know.
