3 Michigan Cities Are The Best For Black Women To Flourish
Being able to thrive and flourish in your own local community is important. People tend to flourish more in a place where there’s culture, support, community, and diversity, among other factors. While some places in the U.S. may lack opportunities for Black women, many cities do have some to offer. This is especially true when it comes to finances. MoneyGeek, a source for personal finance compiled a list of the best cities for Black women to flourish financially. They analyzed data on income, the cost of crime, home ownership, and poverty levels from 164 cities across the U.S. to rank the best and the worst cities.
3 Michigan Cities Are The Best For Black Women to Flourish
According to the study, Michigan has 3 of the best cities for Black women. At the top of the list is Southfield. Further down the list in the number 12 spot is Farmington Hills, which is about an 11-minute drive from Southfield. Closer to the bottom of the best cities list is Warren.
This is the third time Southfield has snagged the number-one spot on their list. According to MoneyGeek, this suburb of Detroit is an ideal location for Black women to “live their best life.” In fact, Black residents make up more than 65% of Southfield.
They found that the South is home to 13 of the top 25 cities for Black women. These include cities such as Pearland, Texas, Port St. Lucie, and Garland, Texas. At the bottom of the ranking is Minneapolis. The personal finance website points out that this city has significant income and health insurance disparities for Black women.
The Economic Realities for Black Women
The study highlights the economic challenges faced by Black women. These include restricted career advancement opportunities, insufficient health insurance, and inadequate retirement savings.
