Detroit’s Getting It’s Own ‘Hollywood-Like’ Sign Ahead Of NFL Draft
Detroit is getting its own Hollywood-style sign along I-94 this spring. The city is preparing to be the host of the 2024 NFL Draft this April, and several beautification projects are in the works. This includes a 10-foot-tall “DETROIT” sign that will sit between Wyoming and Central, along eastbound I-94.
Jessica Parker, Detroit’s deputy chief operations officer, told the Detroit Free Press “It’s going to be like the Hollywood sign, but smaller.” She also told them, “The letters will look like they are floating on beautiful greenery … and they will light up in Detroit’s colors, green and white.” The Hollywood sign is 45 feet tall, according to the Architectural Digest.
Parker also told the Freep that the city accepted a contract from a Detroit-based company, Fairmount Sign Company after a bidding process in the fall, dedicating $400,000 in city funding to create the signage. She also confirmed that the signage project also includes new aluminum “Welcome to Detroit” gateway signs. These will be along I-75 and 8 Mile, I-96 and Telegraph, I-94 at Moross Road, Southfield Road at 8 Mile, and Southfield Road and Ford Road.
Reactions From Locals
With the news of the sign came a Reddit thread with mixed reviews. One person took to the platform and said, “This will definitely be a fun sign, especially given the attention these types of signs get from artists/activists.” Another person suggested a name change altogether for the sign, suggesting “DETROITLAND.” Someone was more concerned about the price and how the city is getting the money, asking “$400k for a 10ft sign?” Meanwhile, another person isn’t quite hopeful the sign will last that long. “Lmfao I give it 3 months before it’s covered in spray paint,” they said.
Also, in the works is Hart Plaza, it’s currently getting a multimillion-dollar restoration of the fountain and grounds. The NFL Draft will take place from April 25-27, 2024, in downtown Detroit. According to the NFL Draft plans, it will be staged around Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza.

It’s been quite a wild NFL offseason already. I feel like every day, I wake up to some kind of major news breaking about one or more NFL teams. But, a lot of the changes happened right before the end of the season, in the form of a bevy of new coaches. So, let’s get into ranking every coach NFL hired for 2024.
It’s hard to believe, but the NFL is replacing a quarter of its head coaches in 2024. That’s so wild. I guess it goes to show that there is very little forgiveness in the NFL when it comes to those leaders. The same is true of college football, too. If coaches aren’t able to deliver in a few years, they’re out. The football world can also be very fickle. When you’re winning, you’re on top. When you’re losing, you’re out. I get it, though, because these teams want to win. There’s a lot of money and pride on the line. So, let’s hope the new coaches for the NFL this year deliver some good games.
Some of the head coaching changes have been shocking. For example, I was surprised when the Seattle Seahawks let Pete Carroll go after so many successful seasons. Another shocker, albeit not quite as surprising, was Bill Belichick. Sure, the New England Patriots had a terrible season. The worst. But, there’s no denying that Belichick is one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time. Will Carroll or Belichick resurface as the head coach of another NFL team down the line? Time will tell. But, for now, they’ll be watching from the sidelines. So, here I go with ranking the NFL’s eight new head coaches. While all of these guys look solid, some moves are just more winning than others.
