According to CandyStore.com, overall Halloween spending is projected to be more than $10 billion in 2021, up 26% over last year. If those projections are accurate, this will be the biggest year for Halloween candy ever!
Each year, the site puts together a list of the most popular Halloween candy in each state. In Michigan, Starburst candies are on top for 2021, followed by Candy Corn and Skittles.
Honestly, this surprises me. Don’t people like chocolatey Halloween candy? Personally, candy corn is my all-time favorite Halloween candy – I even eat it year-round – but I’m usually the minority in this view.
Nationally, Reese’s Cups are the most popular Halloween candy for 2021. Skittles and M&M’s follow.

Another study from Mars Wrigley and Shipt also looked at each state’s favorite candy, but only the Mars Wrigley Halloween varieties.
What’s on top for Michigan in that study? It’s a popular one: Snickers. We’re not alone, either, as 17 states listed it as their favorite.
