3 Michigan Restaurants Named the Best in America by Yelp

There are lots of great things about living in Michigan, and one of them is access to incredible food. I personally think Michigan has some of the best restaurants you’ll find anywhere. We here in Michigan simply pride ourselves on having great food. Now, there’s a study to back up the fact that, yes, Michigan food rocks.

Yelp has put together its list of the Top 100 Restaurants in America in 2022, and three Michigan spots made the cut. “Whether dining indoors, lunching on a breezy patio, ordering takeout, or getting delivery, our hungry community has been enjoying fantastic meals in every corner of the U.S.,” they state in the study. To come up with the tally, Yelp “first reached out to Yelpers for their favorite dining spots. Then, we ranked each by total number of submissions, ratings, reviews, and geographic representation, among other factors.”

So, what Michigan restaurants are inside the top 100 in the U.S.? Coming in at No. 59 is Bistro Bella Vita in Grand Rapids, which Yelp says is known for “favorites” such as “homemade pasta, brick-oven pizzas, rotisserie-roasted meats, and freshly prepared tiramisu.” Sounds delicious.

Also on the list is Grey Ghost Detroit in Detroit at No. 62, which Yelp says is known for its “fried bologna, featuring a potato waffle, cream cheese, and jalapeño,” which “is an unexpected treat.” Yelp adds that, “Folks also love their cheeseburger and fries with “fancy sauce.'” Finally, JT’s Pizza & Spirits in Grand Rapids made it at No. 92 on the list, thanks to its “deluxe pizza with three kinds of meat and the CLT topped with chicken breast and garlic aioli.” All of those restaurants sound tasty. Find the full tally via Yelp here.

Why We Love Michigan in the Winter:

  • Watching wildlife: Michigan has some beautiful wildlife in the spring and summer months, but the state also offers a plethora of winter wildlife that’s fun to watch, from birds to deer.

  • Skiing, sledding and winter activities: As mentioned in the snow section of this post, if you love now, skiing and sledding, then Michigan is a great state to be in the winter. With so much of the white stuff, Michigan offers boundless opportunities to sled and ski all winter long.

  • Upper Peninsula fun: Plenty of people visit the Upper Peninsula during the warm months, but winter is also a great time to visit. You don’t have to fight the crowds, plus winter is extra beautiful Up North, thanks to all the fresh snow.

  • Hot chocolate: Whether you like your hot chocolate with marshmallows or whipped cream (Marshmallows for me!), winter in Michigan is the perfect time to enjoy a nice, piping hot cup of hot cocoa. If that’s not your thing, coffee works, too!

  • Winter fun with friends: Sure, the southern U.S. states avoid freezing cold temperatures, but what’s the fun of a fire pit in 70-degree weather? When it’s cold out, fire up the fire pit and invite friends over for a special experience.

  • Watching winter sports: Can we say, “Hockey?!” Michiganders love their Michigan sports, and hockey is right up there. Let’s hope the Red Wings deliver this season.

  • Winter hiking: You never know what you’ll find during a Michigan winter hike. Perhaps some deer or a beautiful snow bank?

  • Snow: If you’re someone who loves snow, then boy, you’re in the right place. Michigan is full of the cold stuff in the winter. Snow can be beautiful and lends itself to plenty of fun winter activities.
