Cause Revealed In Christian Singer Mandisa Death
**UPDATE** Grammy-winning singer and “American Idol” alum Mandisa passed away in April. The recently released official cause of death was listed as “complications of class III obesity,” with records indicating she weighed 488 pounds at her time of death. The report detailed that Mandisa was found by friends in a decomposed state at her residence on April 18, and emergency services pronounced her dead upon arrival.
People.com reported that, Class III obesity is defined as a disease where an individual has a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher, or a BMI of 35 or higher along with obesity-related health conditions, as stated by the Cleveland Clinic.
I have followed Mandisa’s career since she was a contestant on season 5 of American Idol. We would often comment on events or our singleness when I was on twitter. Today her social media accounts announced that she was “found in her home deceased.” A rep for the singer released a statement to PEOPLE saying, “At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details”. Mandisa was 47.
Following ‘American Idol’ Mandisa released her debut album, ‘True Beauty,’ in 2007, which debuted at number one on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart, making her the first new female artist to accomplish the feat, and she earned her first Grammy nomination for best pop/contemporary gospel album. She released five more albums throughout her career, including ‘Overcomer’ in 2013, which also earned her a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music album.
