How Many Times Is ‘Love’ Mentioned in the Bible
According to BibleStudyTools.com, “The word “love” appears in the Bible hundreds of times, and though it is not the most used word in the Bible, it is one of the central themes and driving forces of God’s Word.”
Additionally, there are different definitions of love in the Bible including, Agape (Unconditional selfless love), Philia (Friendship with feelings of affection), and Eros (Passionate and physical).

Since there are so many definitions and translations of the Bible… BibleStudyTools.com gives a ballpark number of actual mentions in these popular translations:
How Many Times Is ‘Love’ Mentioned in the Bible
- English Standard Version: 684
- King James Version: 442
- New American Standard Bible: 479
- New Living Translation: 759
- New International Version: 686
- The Message: 611

But remember, it’s not how many times the word ‘love” is mentioned in the Bible, it’s that the Bible is love. So, here’s a few of my favorites:
1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us
1 Corinthians 16:14 Let all that you do be done in love.
Colossians 3:14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
1 Corinthians 13:13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
And of course:
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
