Today In Black History: Meet The First Black Rodeo Queen of Arkansas
Ja’Dayia Kursh always knew she wanted to be a cowgirl growing up so it’s not a surprise that in 2017 on her 17th birthday, she was crowned Miss Rodeo Coal Hill of Arkansas, making her the first Black rodeo queen in the state.

Ja’Dayia became involved in rodeo at the age of 13 and said that the industry, “comes with trials and tribulations.” She’s faced ridicule among her peers because of her race, but says the challenges have made her stronger. Kursh is also a model for Wrangler Jeans and set to graduate from the University of Arkansas in December, with plans to go to law school. She said she wants people to know to just be themselves, “do you, and be yourself out loud.” (Source: 5NewsOnline.com)
