Pastor Shames Single Pregnant Woman During Streaming Service
A pastor in Hampton, Virginia, shamed a single young woman by instructing her to stand in front of the congregation to apologize for her pregnancy. He also denied her a baby shower. I witnessed similar events growing up in the church, and it was heartbreaking to watch, but it was done within the church and the person “confessing.” These moments angered me then, but what made this situation worse was that it occurred during a live stream on January 5th. A moment that should have been private—between the individual, church and God—was turned into a public spectacle.
After the woman stood before the church and confessed, “I want to apologize to everybody in here because I am pregnant. I just hope that y’all forgive me,” the pastor claimed that he does not condone sin and stated that she would not receive a baby shower for having a child out of wedlock.

The young woman’s mother took to social media to express that her “peace” over the situation has been disrupted, but she still stands by her church and pastor. Once again, what should have been a private moment—even within the church—turned into a viral spectacle. I’m praying for that young woman.
